Harry? What do you think?

Harry? What do you think?

I get quite some questions through my Instagram Direct messages and my blog concerning travelling these days and had many great conversations throughout the last days.

So let’s start right away with the most important questions I got through the last weeks:

Aren’t you afraid to travel during this pandemic?

Afraid? No! Very cautious? Yes!

But I have understanding of the situation and also the necessary respect for my fellow humans. Therefore I stick to the rules and laws that are in place to try to flatten the curve, protect the others and protect myself. And I do this in a very strict way. Much more strict than most of the other people.

But I’m not afraid, because I put a lot of effort in planning my trips during these hard times for travelers and choose my destinations wisely. I follow the current infection numbers and I try to make my travels as secure as possible without putting me or others into the danger of getting infected.

Don’t you feel like your freedom as a traveler is going away?

Apparently: No! Truely no!

Yes, there are a lot of countries you can’t travel to at the moment because of the pandemic getting worse in autumn and winter. But this doesn’t mean I have a feeling of loosing my freedom.

There are a lot of countries I wanted to visit and weren’t able to because of other reasons like for example wars and other crisis. And in my opinion this situation is not much different, except for the fact that this is affecting all countries of the world now.

And beneath being able to travel far away, this could also be the time to explore your own country a bit more and try to see your area with the eyes of a traveler and re-discover it’s beauty.

Don’t you think travelling is irresponsible now?

Well. No!

It is definitely not irresponsible to travel through the pandemic times, IF you strictly stick to some rules during your travels (that even should be followed at home!):

  • On your way:
    • If your country declared the destination as a risk country: Don’t go there now.
    • Choose the most secure type of transportation to your destination.
    • Prefer to go in your own car.
    • If you travel by plane: Don’t use public transportation to the airport. Reserve seats at your flight with the least possible exposure.
  • At your destination:
    • Avoid large number of people as good as possible.
    • If a sightseeing spot is crowded: Don’t go there.
    • Don’t do guided bus tours.
    • Take your car or a rental car to explore your destination.
    • Prefer nature over famous sightseeing spots.
  • During the whole trip:
    • Stick to the distancing rules.
    • Wear a mask and change/wash it regularly.
    • Wash your hands often.

Unfortunately I made the experience, that a lot of tourists don’t follow these basic rules and think they can behave in foreign countries, like there is no pandemic. These people are definitely irresponsible traveler because one thing is the most important rule for me:

Always respect the people of the country you’re visiting, because you’re the foreigner here and especially during these complicated times, you should do your best to protect all people.

How do you stay hungry for travelling?

That’s easy! I’m quite often enjoying the photos and videos of other travelers on Instagram to discover the beauties all over the world and there are also a lot of things that I want to see with my own eyes.

And sometimes I just use Google Maps to have a look at interesting areas in other countries and find out what’s interesting to see there.

Also for a lot of people it is their highest goal to have a house, mow the lawn and spend time at home, but not for me! I just haven’t seen enough of the world and time is my most precious good!

Apart from that I just team up with my love and we haven’t given up on travelling near and far, that why we already have pleans for 2021. We’re curious if everything will work out.

And last but not least:

You seem to be an incorrigible optimist?

YES! 😉
