Travelling during a pandemic?

Travelling during a pandemic?

Life changed for all people with the pandemic.

But it possibly changed the most for all people that first and foremost love travelling and seeing the world. Because when building a house, staying at home, raising kids and mowing the lawn is not the most important thing for you, you possibly found your passion in travelling like I do … together with your soul mate … like I did.

If it is that way for you, than the pandemic has basically cut off your legs and travelling wasn’t really possible for the last couple of months, so it’s time to get creative here.

THese are my personal rules for travelling during the pandemic:

RULE 1:
Always take good care to stay safe and protect your health and also the health of the other people around you! No matter where you are!

Because even if you travel, the most important thing is to keep the infection rates down! World wide!

Following this rule does not only help to keep you safe, but it also helps to  make travelling safe and possible!

Nothing more awful than tourists that think, that they don’t have to follow the hygiene rules when they’re not in their own country, because this is not only disrespectful to the people of the foreign country, but it also possibly takes away the possibility to travel to a country for other people.

RULE 2:
If possible use times for travelling when others are not!

If you have the possibility use the times for travelling, when most people can’t. This means you should choose to travel outside of the main vacation dates and also not during special bank holidays.

Where you go depends on the country you’re travelling to, because especially the bank holiday times are different in each country. Google is your friend while planning your trip and helps to find the best time.

Another advantage of this rule is, that you can also safe tons of money.

I know unfortunately that this rule is quite a blocker for everyone having kids in kindergarden or school age.

RULE 3:
If a place is crowded. Don’t go there!

That sounds like a fairly easy one, but in reality this can be quite a hard one, because sometimes you desperately want to see something and when you arrive, you realize even outside the main vacation times, this is a tourist hotspot and it’s awfully crowded.

Well. I just leave then and google fastly for alternatives nearby.

I’ve also found out, that at the crowded spots it’s mostly the other tourists that behave like idiots. That sounds harsh, but sadly it’s a fact.

Advantage: I can assure you, that a lot of time the places that aren’t the main tourist spots are as great as the others and reward you with beautiful moments.

RULE 4:
Do your security planning right!

Still the most important thing is to stay healthy during your travels, so be sure to get your planning right.

Get to know the hygiene rules of the country you’re travelling to and abolutely act according to them!

Take enough protection gear with you. I recommend the following stuff:

  • Face protection masks: I recommend to choose the disposable masks, as you mostly won’t have the possibility to wash your masks. You travel for 7 days? I recommend you to take a minimal number of 8 to 10 masks with you to be able to switch them daily and have some spare ones.
  • Hand sanitizer: Perfect to use as an extra level of security after leaving the toilet (even if you carefully washed your hands), when being at places you often have to touch something or when just eating an apple or finger food without being able to wash your hands.
  • rubber gloves: In some countries you will need them for shopping in super markets and even if it is not, there are moments, when you will be happy to have them with you.

RULE 5:
Choose your transportation carefully!

Yes, it is tempting to fly like you possibly did in the past, but this is something all the others also do, so it’s probably a good idea to choose a transportation method that keeps you and your partner safe:

By Car!

The advantage is, you can completely avoid the crowded airports, planes, train stations, trains, bus stations and busses, which reduces the risk for you and your travel companion and also for the others.

Advantage: Good talks, loud music and toilet pauses whenever you want! 😉

Disadvantage is for sure, that it limits you to a smaller radius for travelling depending on the time you have, so there is still the option for going:

By Plane!

Which opens up more possibilities and destinations for you, but the chances of getting infected is definitely higher. But you can take precautions during travelling by plane and also during your travel to the airport. So this can be a calculated risk. Also the airlines are taking precautions, so this still is definitely possible.

Advantage: Bigger travelling range!

Happy travelling!

RULE 6:
Be an early bird!

Wether it may be the sunrise, the hotel breakfast or a sightseeing spot:

Be an early bird to avoid tourist crowds, have a little bit of privacy, have a breakfast on your own or just enjoy the sunrise of your life!

RULE 7:
Be chillaxed!

No matter where you are and what you do:

Be chillaxed! It’s your vacation and it’s there to create beautiful moments, so even with the limitations, be sure to fully enjoy your stay!

Even if there are other tourists acting like idiots, please always stay calm and relaxed. You can try to convince people to stick to the protection rules, but it’s much more easier to just point the responsible ones into their direction.

RULE 8:
Protect others when coming home!

The last rule is the one that’s not exactly valid for or during your trip, but nevertheless it’s an important one:

Be reasonable and even if you’re not returning home from a risk country: Take a first test right at the border to your country and then, even if it is negative, stay home for a couple of days and take a second test to be sure you’re not infected.

This is not only a reasonable action, but it also shows that you respect others and act responsible of a member of a society to protect your colleagues, friends and all the others.

Have a safe travel everyone!
